Movies are my favourite past-time. I watch them like some guys do sporting events and I get equally worked up. I like a great idea that’s been written well, directed well, acted well and shot well. I have my own laundry list of actors and directors that I follow as well. The only aspect of my love for movies that might rival actually seeing a movie is getting the chance to sit down in a pub with a group of old friends and start talking movies. Sometimes it’s surprising what my friends come out with. One of the most interesting and most exhausting series of conversations about movies I’ve ever had came about a few years back when Gibson’s The Passion was coming out in theatres. My circle of friends back then consisted almost entirely of theological students! The debate was so heated that the only way to regain composure was to get up for the loo and swing by the bar to buy another round. One of my best friends, a girl who shall remain nameless (for her safety as well as mine), had been drinking Stella all night. By the end she was ready to start taking swings at her her current boyfriend. So, as you can see, we take movie watching very seriously. Lately, I’ve been in the mood for a really hot, steamy movie with lots of sultry sex. They don’t seem to make very many good ones anymore, so I’ve begun to compile a list to aid me as I descend further into my ‘dirty old man’ years. Let’s pretend it’s pub night! Here’s my top ten, tell me whatcha think:

10) Dangerous Liaisons - This movie started me on my affair of the heart with Uma Thurman. Rather, it would be an affair of the heart if she ever bothered to return my phone calls. This movie brings back many fond, boyhood memories. And i was well made too!

9) Fast Times at Ridgemont High - All I can say is: Phoebe Cates, the pool scene. The movie is anastutely observed depiction of highschool life in the US. The movie is not really very sexy overall, more goofy. But let me say again: Phoebe Cates, pool scene.

9 1/2 Weeks - This movie was the best sex-ed class I ever watched. It taught me a lot of things that I’ve neer really needed to know about sex, but with such panache! I was never able to think of Kim Basinger and food in the same way again.

7) Wild Things - Not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination (and there is a disturbing Kevin Bacon nude shot), but Neve Campbell and Denise Richards are fantastically hot. I watched this on a very hot day and the air conditioned theatre was almost as much a pleasure as watching those two actresses frolic together.

6) Basic Instinct - My goodness, the movie starts with a hot sex sceneand then there’s all those shots of Sharon Stone in the nude, and let’s not forget the scene in the interrogation room. Despite numerous plot holes and some sketchy acting, I saw that movie twice in the theatres.

5) The Piano - Okay, call me a mush, but I really liked this movie a lot. The acting and the cinematography are mesmerising. And then there’s the really hot sex scenes with Holly Hunter. Maybe you can tell, but I really dig older women.

4) Bull Durham - Speaking of older women, this classic baseball comedy made me fall head over heels for Susan Sarandon. It helped me really get into baseball for a few years too. Unfortunately, there were no hot moms coming out for my little league games.

3) Requiem for a Dream - This film is exceptional in its beauty and quality. The story is so poignant, so brutal and so sad that it made me sob. In the scene toward the end with Jennifer Connelly, still makes me quiver with excitment and anguish.

2) American Pie - I really don’t need to say much here. It’s a really funny movie (the original that is), but my God, I can’t count the number of sizzling little scenes this movie delivers. High entertainment, I guarantee.

1) Mulholland Drive - This amazing David Lynch movie had me guessing and drooling all the way through. I still have crazy conversations with people who have wildly diverging ideas about what took place in the story, intellectually it’s highly provocative. The only thing everyone (man and woman) can agree on is that Naomi Watts and Laura Elena Harring really steam it up!
